The Baron Vladmir Harkonnen

I'm currently studying costume design at AFTRS, and as an excercise we had to pick a film and re-design the costumes to change the tone ofthe film. I chose Dune, since the novel is my favourite book of all time. I created 10 illustrations that I felt made the overall feel more feudal and steeped in history - with inspiration from a variety of different eras in costume history, from Moroccan to Georgian design.

I liked the idea of the Baron having previously been an excellent wrestler until he'd been stricken with the poison that made him hideously obese. Like Henry VIII, he was probably a decent looking man. I liked the look of some ceremonial armour, with pauldrons in verdigris bronze.

Total time taken was around 3 and a half hours in Photoshop.
