The Reverend Mother Gais Helen Mohiam

I'm currently studying costume design at AFTRS, and as an excercise we had to pick a film and re-design the costumes to change the tone ofthe film. I chose Dune, since the novel is my favourite book of all time. I created 10 illustrations that I felt made the overall feel more feudal and steeped in history - with inspiration from a variety of different eras in costume history, from Moroccan to Georgian design.

While I'm fond of the bald Reverend Mother designs from the 1984 Dune, I decided that I'd soften the look a fair deal - the Bene Gesserit use their feminine wiles a great deal in their work, so I wanted to make even the older Reverend Mother look a little alluring, even at her advanced age.

Total time taken was around 2 and a half hours in Photoshop.
